Half of employees "want home working"

A survey has revealed that nearly half of workers would prefer to work from home full time.

The survey, conducted on behalf of travel company Cruise118, also found that 80% would like the option to work from home occasionally, while only one in five wanted to be based in an office full time.

Mal Barritt, director of Cruise118, told OnRec that the combination of stressful commuting and the rising cost of transport was behind the shift to home working. "With rising petrol prices, expensive child care and a stressful commute to the office each day, it's no wonder that many people would rather work from home," he said.

And thanks to technology, home working is now a viable option - even when it's permanent. Barritt added that "the majority of business is done via email and telephone these days and therefore in most cases staff can work just as effectively from home."
